something a bit different

Make It Stand Out.

The hope behind this build was to bring life to a generally dull part of this residence. In adding bright colors, a range of textures and a healthy mix of annuals and perennials - this garden in a pot is ready to last. When it comes to building a container garden, think about longevity, seasonality, space and texture. Breakdown what you are looking for - something to last a few years, a short season or just the span of a special event. What colors are you looking to bring to your space and how big do you want to go?

I love to design with perennials. I think they add a quality to a container that is unexpected and they broaden your palette exponentially. The options become much more colorful and diverse. Additionally, adding perennials allow for a base that always exists in a container! Once a grass, a leafy green or a dramatic texture is added, you have something that will last through each change of season. Perennials come back year to year which is a bonus, but understand they do not bloom for a whole season. Queue TEXTURE and COLOR! Add bright color through a curated selection of annuals, choose really spectacular perennial blooms for impact and load your pot with lasting texture to create something magical. I love to go monochromatic because it is impactful. Quantity of color can surely be seen from the street, but a secret little pop of something more muted is for the close up experience of this garden.

Lastly, let’s talk space. Sometimes I get the question - ‘how many plants can I fit in this pot?’. That’s a great question. My answer is ‘as many as you want’. Add something tall; let a trailer spill out the side; weave leaves together and intermingle tiny moments throughout this little garden. As you get to know me, you will realize I pack a lot in there, but hey! its a garden - things change and grow so everything you add will bring something special to this pot. As you watch your garden grow you will see how new things happen every day. Enjoy this process.
